Status means a person's legal status, whether personal or property. In the context of immigration law, it is the name of the category of visa that has been assigned to a person and the group of privileges they receive upon becoming a permanent resident or non-immigrant (holder of a temporary visa). The position, status, or condition of a person; the rights, obligations, capacities, and disabilities that assign a person to a given class.
